Direct Energy to light up new Cowboys Stadium Electricity supply, marketing contract renewed through March 2012

Dallas, TX (8/4/2009) - Training camp for the Dallas Cowboys is underway in San Antonio, meaning the NFL football debut at the new Cowboys Stadium is just around the corner. As part of the move from Irving to Arlington, the Cowboys are bringing along Direct Energy as the Official Electricity Provider to the Dallas Cowboys and Cowboys Stadium.

Direct Energy, the third-largest electricity retailer in Texas and official provider to Texas Stadium from 2005-2009, will be keeping the lights on and teaming with the Cowboys to provide both in-game and other promotional opportunities through March 2012 as part of a three-year partnership renewal, the organizations announced Tuesday.

“The Cowboys are fan-favorites, and a distinctly Texas brand that’s recognized around the world,” said Phil Tonge, President of Mass Markets, Direct Energy. “We’ve been more than an electricity provider to the Cowboys over the last four years; we look forward to our continued partnership with the Cowboys, bringing exciting programs to our customers and Cowboys fans alike as we join them in creating new memories at the new facility.”

In addition to a significant brand presence at Cowboys Stadium, Direct Energy will continue its Flip the Switch on-field promotion, giving away free electricity to select fans. The company is also preparing other unique in-market promotions to engage fans and reinforce the Direct Energy brand in the Lone Star state. Those promotions will be announced at www.directenergy.com/cowboys throughout the upcoming season.

“Direct Energy has been a tremendous partner to the Dallas Cowboys, and we’re looking forward to having them on board at Cowboys Stadium when we open the pre-season next month,” said Jerry Jones Jr. Chief Marketing Officer for the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. “Our relationship with Direct Energy has grown over the years and it is exciting to have them continue that into the future.”
