Centrica Issues its 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report
Toronto, ON (5/12/2009) - Sam Laidlaw, Chief Executive Officer of Centrica and Deryk King, Direct Energy’s Chief Executive Office are pleased to announce the release of the company’s 2008 Corporate Responsibility report.
“Centrica’s approach to corporate responsibility involves identifying and responding to the many social and environmental challenges of our operation,” said Mr. Laidlaw. “Our approach focuses on implementing strategies that will result in Centrica’s positive contributions to the community”.
“This report is a valuable tool in assessing and tracking our performance over the course of the year and holds us as a business responsible and accountable for our actions and undertakings” said Deryk King.
Key impact areas examined include: climate change and environment, customer service, securing energy supplies, health and safety, employees, supply chain and local impact
Highlights of Direct Energy’s performance include:
• Customer service - Improved our Net Promoter Score over last year, from 6.1 to 6.9
• Climate change - Reduced the carbon intensity of our power generation assets by 13.44% since 2007
• Local impact - Employees raised over $250,000 for charitable causes across North America through local fundraisers and time spent out of the office volunteering at company sponsored charitable initiative
“A strong emphasis was put on Centrica’s impact on the physical environment in 2008. We are pleased with the achievements we’ve made, but there is always room for improvement which the company has indentified and will address in 2009,” stated Laidlaw.
