Direct Energy and City of Canfield Offer Residents and Small Businesses Natural Gas Price Direct Choice provides pricing stability during winter heating months

Canfield, OH (10/27/2009) - As temperatures drop across the Buckeye state, residents and small businesses in the City of Canfield now have an opportunity to lock in to a stable natural gas plan before heating season goes into full swing.

Through a marketing agreement called Direct Choice, the City of Canfield is recommending to its citizens Direct Energy’s natural gas product. The product offers a stable price of $0.817 per Ccf from the December 2009 to April 2010 bill cycles. After the April bill cycle, the price may remain variable unless a new stable price is established by the city. A senior citizen discount of $0.010 per Ccf is available upon request to customers 65 years of age and over. The term of the agreement between Direct Energy and the city is in effect through the December 2010 bill cycle.

”The great thing about this program is that it offers a fixed price with a simple enrollment process,” said Charles Tieche, City Manager of Canfield. “To participate in the program customers should just call Direct Energy and notify them that they’re a resident of the community.”

“Natural gas prices on the wholesale market are pretty attractive right now, so the city was able to secure a competitive price for the members of their community,” said Mike Beck, Vice President for Direct Energy. “Customers should really think about locking in now before their home heating consumption levels hit their peak.”

In order to take advantage of the Direct Choice offer, residents need to be eligible to participate in the state’s customer choice program and have a residence or business located within the city limits. Also, residents must actively enter into a contract with Direct Energy to receive this price. If residents are already under contract with another supplier, but wish to enroll with Direct Energy, they are encouraged to review their current contract to determine if they will be charged an early cancellation fee to switch suppliers.
