Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth Source Electricity Partner for Baseball Field at East Side Branch
Direct Energy Signs On to Energize Field, Club Members
Fort Worth, TX (9/16/2009) - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing enriching programs for local youth from disadvantaged circumstances, has partnered with Direct Energy for the electricity needs of its new baseball field at the East Side Branch location. The new field, made possible by a grant from The Baseball Tomorrow Fund – a joint initiative by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association – will be celebrated during a grand opening on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.
“Thanks to the generosity of The Baseball Tomorrow Fund and Direct Energy, our dream of building a baseball field where our youth can learn the important life skills of respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship have now become a reality,” said Daphne Barlow, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth.
Direct Energy, the third-largest retail electric provider in Texas and a long-time supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs across the state, has committed $5,000 towards electricity costs for the field.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are about creating safe environments where children can develop, learn, and grow to reach their full potential,” said Phil Tonge, president of Direct Energy’s Mass Markets business and chairman of the Southwest Region Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Board of Trustees. “As the days get shorter heading into fall, it’s all the more important to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth to energize the new field – and in turn, energize the children as they develop the good habits of leading healthy, active lifestyles as part of the various important lessons they’re learning as members of the Boys & Girls Clubs.”
The new field’s location was strategically chosen to impact some of the most underserved children in the community. In all, more than $160,000 has been raised to fund the project, aimed at accommodating players o fall ages and serve youth at all of the Fort Worth-area Boys & Girls Clubs.
